Well the sun is shining, isn’t it? It’s bloody great! The one thing that kept me indoors this weekend was Doctor Who, and I’d like to say that Matt E. Smith is the best doctor I’ve ever seen. Truly emotional, although like many people I wasn’t best pleased when that stupid animated Graham Norton popped up dancing all over the ending – let’s hope they don’t use him as one of the new baddies, haha!

I spent most of my Sun(ny)day stood in the garden saying hello to people. Bliss!

At the nighttime I went on the new website Amazon and bought a load of classic DVDs. I got The Mighty Ducks, King Ralph and City Of God for £17.99 each. Bargain! But the best news is that I found this courier service site which I can have my orders delivered through as well as being able to track them. I’m quite into the idea of tracking my parcels via GPS, like some sort of secret agent. It’s like a video game on the computer!

I love films, me. I’ve seen nearly all of them. I’ve always wanted to work as a scriptwriter and I have some excellent ideas and have written some of them up. One of them is about a man called Jamie Euan James who lives in a secret underground basement, taking out revenge on people who are rude. It’s called ‘Mind Your Manners!’

Another script I have been working on is the sequel to The Dark Knight. Here’s a little extract (keep your mitts off, Holly Wood!)

BATMAN 3: THE DARK KNIGHT 2 by JAJ Productions

Int. Batcave

Batman is sat in the Batcave drinking some very tormented coffee. Everything is dark, except the bit of his face you can see (juxtaposition do you see?)

BATMAN:
I am a symbol!

Then The Joker walks in, but it is just in Batman’s mind.

BATMAN:
Oh damn!!

JOKER:
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

BATMAN:
You’re a maniac. You laughing, laughing maniac!

JOKER:
Ah yes, but who is really the mad one?

BATMAN:
You are.

JOKER:
HAAHAHAHAHAHA!!

The Joker exeunt (Shakespeare ref.) Alfred walks in. He is so English.

ALFRED:
Apples and pears, Master Bruce! Was walkin’ down the Old Kent Road, guv, and I fort to myself ‘LET’S AVE A COCKNEY SING SONG!’

Alfred begins to sing ‘I am a music man’

BATMAN:
Yes! I am a cymbal!

Robin enters the room,… or does he???

END OF SCENE 1.

See you soon!

Hiking Time!

Ay up (as they say in the ‘north’)

Sometimes I need to get away from it all – just forget about the kids and school and the teachers. I find the best way to get away from things is to walk. I like to breathe in Wales’ beautiful scenery from atop a local hill or quiet motorway bridge. It really helps me put things into perspective, as I stand there and think about my life, and I make friends as crowds of people gather around and below me. This is how I met Glyn. Hello Glyn!

I think the best walk I ever had was with my grandma when I was a youngster. We went through Porthmadog until we found a lovely wood just outside it. Before I knew it, me and Grandma Adams were playing Hide N Seek! She never even told me! I never lost, of course, perhaps cementing a passion for non-contact sport I have maintained to this very day. Don’t be fooled though, I also like contact sports.

The best place to go walking in Wales is the Valleys and make no mistake! Me and my school friends spent many great afternoons kicking a ball around there, chasing girls and singing the latest Stereophonics single. We didn’t have a care in the world!

But now the time I have to myself is precious. I either spend it playing online slots (although this is more something I do while doing other work) or down the pub with a friend. I don’t drink during the week, so I’m more than happy to ferry the lads (Geffin, Gareth and Rees) around. Mine’s a Coke, boyos!!! ;)

So this week I think I will once more find some time alone with my thoughts. The rugby, work and Grandma Adams will pass through my mind. Except this time, of course, I won’t find Grandma Adams.

This one’s for you, Grammy (her fave song):

Doing something for the folks

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Hello, bonjour and sil vous plait! Back once again with… a blog! Well, that was a different start to this week’s entry – just having a laugh, really! :)

I felt a bit bad about ignoring my parents over most of Easter so I tried to spend some time doing something that they would be interested in this week. Growing up I was always the Golden Boyo, so I think it’s only fair that I do more to increase my caring side. So I put the online slots away and we’ve been playing online bingo instead. It was a real quality family moment – mum and dad in the lounge, me in the cellar. Dad even set up a walkie talkie downstairs so I didn’t even have to see them face-to-face. He’s a very considerate man and I think I definitely owe my personality traits to him!

An online bingo club is a bit different to a regular club (well duh!). Firstly, you’re actually playing against people in the real clubs, and secondly, there are no fruit machines or bars to go to. It’s basically just wall-to-wall bingo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, mum and dad made more money than I did. I didn’t make anything! Mum’s old bingo team, Too Phat Laydeez ’88, made a lot of money on the bingo scene two decades ago, and she clearly still has ‘Bingo Wrist’ as they say in the biz.

All in all – a fun Saturday night!

Back in school now after Easter, and it’s hard getting the kids back onto the track after they’ve been stuffing their faces with Easter eggs! My main plan of action is to just randomly chase them individually at the beginning of the lesson – just to get them warmed up. It’s worked so far as they’ve done everything I’ve said! Might put together a PowerPoint and present my findings to my colleagues at the next staff meeting (which I’ve been told will be during my lessons in future – who’s gonna cover me?!).

Well, time to go, enjoy your weeks, internet friends!

Gambling without the gambling

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

With the Easter holiday well and truly underway, I’ve been quite bored to be honest. I still live with my mum and dad but they’re getting quite old now so their hearing has gone and they can’t always hear what I’m saying. They can hear each other perfectly well, but I guess that’s just love for you.

So I’ve been keeping myself busy by playing some online casino games, particularly the free slots. They’re great: you can set it up so you can play the games without putting on a bet. This means you experience the fun of the titles without any chance of loss.

Before long, I’d slapped on a Stereophonics CD and rocked out while playing slots, racking up quite a few points (sadly not pounds as remember I wasn’t playing for money) on the games. My favourite was probably Rainbow Riches. I was drawn to this as I’d seen the fruit machine in the pub before so it was kind of cool to play an online version.

I’ve often wondered if teaching the kids at school about gambling is a good idea. Of course, they’d need to be taught about being responsible with it (not betting someone else’s house, for example!), but they could learn a lot about probability and how to handle their money. The thing is, a lot of my ideas for the school have been dismissed in the past (I still stand by Tom Jones Wednesdays) so there’s a chance they might not listen.

I’m back in school next Monday and I’m looking forward to it more than I thought I would. Let’s hope the kids don’t trick me again! :-) I’ve never really been a big fan of Easter as religion makes me sick and I don’t believe in chocolate, so it will be good to be back.

Until Monday, then, I’ll be on the computer not losing any money! :-P

Tricked by a child

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Sometimes the kids at my school are a delight. Other times they are… like they were today.

Every spring we take the kids onto the field for a bit of a run. It’s not a common thing – we don’t do it as much as football and rugby – we just try to encourage cross-country as another method of keeping fit. Anyway, we get out there today and everybody starts running and it’s all going well.

Suddenly, one of the lads pulls out with a limp. He won’t let me touch him (the law is the law) so all I can do is leave him to it as I’m on my own. This is a difficult quandary when you’re teaching on your own – do you sacrifice the class for one child? There’s no real protocol for it that I know of.

We do another lap, and I return to the lad. He’s still down, but he won’t go back to the locker room to do homework or anything, so again I have to leave him. He was only a small thing, and looked a lot like me at his age. He’s not particularly studious, and isn’t top of the class when it comes to sport either. If I’m honest, I felt a little bit sorry for him.

One more lap and I return to him. Still not getting up. So by now I gather the class around and we start warming down. That is, of course, until the bell rings. At which point the entire class – including the injured boy – run back to the classroom! Bloody hell!

Nothing I can do really! Rest assured though, tonight I will be staying in for a few beers and a few games of online roulette. And I’ll have a drink on the kid with the ‘damaged leg’ – he certainly got me!
